- Minor Basilica in Krzeszów
Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krzeszów – the church of the Cistercians Abbey was built around 1728 - 1735 and it belongs to the group of the most beautiful and notable baroque churches in Silesia and in Europe. The church was given the name of a basilica in 1998 by the Pope John Paul II and since that day it proudly fulfils its new glorious function. The element which is the most standing out from the distance of few kilometers are the two towers. The Middle Ages rules forbid the Cistercians to build i.a. (inter alia) towers on churches, however in the period of counter-reformation, the Cistercians began to break the rules and this way around 1735 these two baroque towers were built. We can admire them today. The Basilica, together with the numerous sacred buildings located in the neighborhood are the grade A buildings (the so-called class zero monuments) and by pilgrims visiting this place they are claimed to be the Silesian Jerusalem. As a curious detail it is worth adding, that worshippers, who visit the Basilica and take part in one of its masses or at least pray with the words of the Lord`s Prayer and say the confession of faith, will be granted the general indulgence. It is one of the privileges of the Basilica.
It took 8 artists and 6 months to build this miniature.
